The National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NFDHR) is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established June 2012 in Yemen. Our vision is a peaceful and stable Yemen free of poverty, in which all people have equal access to basic needs and human rights, and our mission is to provide an integrated humanitarian and development response to aid Yemen and other conflict-affected countries through a professional, neutral, and transparent approach.
We aim to achieve our overall vision and mission by working to enhance local communities’ development and stability through identifying structural causes of poverty, raising awareness, increasing access to basic services, and focusing on building citizens’ capacities, especially women and youth, so as to enable their participation in the decision-making process that leads to sustainable development and a peaceful society within their developing and conflict-affected countries. NFDHR aims to accomplish these goals through its seven core programs: Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL); Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH); Health and Nutrition; Education; Gender and Protection; Shelter and Non-food items (NFIs); and Peacebuilding and Governance.
Security Guard Job Description
The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring NFDHR’s premises and staff are kept safe from harm by managing and mitigating any safety or security violations that occur within NFDHR. He/she also guards NFDHR’s materials from sabotage, damage and theft. The Security Guard is essential to the safety and comfort of NFDHR employees, which enables them to work more efficiently and effectively in achieving NFDHR’s vision and mission. The Security Guard reports directly to the Security Officer. This position is full-time, based on a 40-hour work week, but varies from week to week as humanitarian need constantly oscillates according to the unstable conflict environment and funding availability.
Main Tasks
- Implement guard duty patrols in NFDHR, as planned by the Security Officer on working days, holidays and vacations.
- Guard NFDHR’s premises and all its contents and protect it from acts of sabotage, damage or theft.
- Protect NFDHR leaders, employees, and VIP visitors, taking the necessary measures to keep them safe.
- Manage security violations that occur within NFDHR by taking necessary action to mitigate harmful consequences.
- Oversee the security work movement, taking into account other regulations governing this aspect.
- Assist the Security Officer in the investigation of problems and incidents occurring in NFDHR.
- Carry out specific tasks issued by the Security Officer and any auxiliary tasks according to the Security and Safety Guide in coordination with the Department of Operations, Human Resources and the Security and Safety Department
- File and submit necessary reports and paperwork relating to visitors and exit permits to the Operations Department or other relevant departments.
- Other duties as assigned.
The role of the Security Guard is not limited to the specific duties mentioned above. It is subject to change with the evolution of the conflict and in accordance with NFDHR’s vision and mission. As such, the Security Guard is required to manage all unforeseen issues and circumstances in relation to NFDHR’s immediate security and safety needs and should remain adaptable to perform responsibilities that may not be mentioned above, as and when required.
Qualifications
- Secondary degree or training in safety/security
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a security guard
- Ability to work in remote areas
- Experience with field level coordination with other stakeholders UN, INGOs, NNGOs and government
- Commitment to the aims and principles of NFDHR.
- Arabic language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing)

- Ability to stay calm under in the face of volatile situations
- Flexible and able to work well under pressure
- Capable of working collaborative with team members to achieve results
- Relates and works well with people from different cultures, genders, religions and backgrounds
